Within
the NALEKET system:
MEFORSHIM are
taught as separate units - independent of
the CHUMASH TEXT units.
The rationale behind this approach
is the recognition that while the end result appears to
be quite similar [ ie. translate a given piece of text
from the Hebrew into English etc ] , one needs to be
aware that the focus of attention on studying a TEXT
is possibly quite different from the study of a COMMENTARY
to the text.
It is my thesis that it is
precisely this lack of
discrimination between the 2 disciplines, that
has led to limited success in the
teaching of BOTH the text and the
commentary
